Dial peer selection

Monday, March 1st, 2010 | CCIE, cvoice | No Comments

Sometimes there is a need to configure more complicated configuration for incoming or outgouing calls. It’s good to remember what is an order of dial-peer’s selection by matching epcific elements. So it selects as below:

1. incoming called-address

2. answer-address

3. destination-pattern

4. voice-port

In the case of some issues start debug remembering that it is enough for gateway to match one of those elements.

From MSN to DDI

Thursday, December 31st, 2009 | CCIE, ip telephony | No Comments

I really hate when customer plays unfair – doing big change in services without notice. It was this time with approximatelly 30 remote offices each with 2 bri interfaces.

In the half of them we met an issue. Conections wasn’t established properly. After searches solution was to reconfigure bri interfaces as below

isdn tei-negotiation first-call
isdn tei-negotiation power
isdn tei-negotiation powerup
isdn static-tei 0

Important: clear interface

CCIE Voice Lab

Thursday, December 3rd, 2009 | CCIE | No Comments

I saw a scheme how the lab looks like for CCIE Voice Lab exam. At least it is easier to learn build something similar to test, learn and troubleshoot most common issues and implementation tasks.

All looks clear except new version contains Cisco Presence – new to me – never implemented, never supported – yet. Secondary I wonder how important is Exchange server during lab exam. I hope it is just a tool to check some functionalities.

Fax at gateway/router

Friday, October 30th, 2009 | ip telephony | No Comments

Preparing to aquire all necessary knowledge I started to implementing Fax-to-mail solution in one of my projects.

Idea: Fax to mail via 2811 with E1 as additional service for Contact Center. Looks easy, but life shows it different.

Challenge: voip protocol, fax protocol and default scirpts depending of hardware :)

CCNA Voice

Friday, October 30th, 2009 | ip telephony | No Comments

The next exam has been passed – this time CCNA Voice with very good result. 65 questions and 1/3 was very difficult. The truth is I thought starting from 50th question I answered wrong to the rest of questions.

Practice and experince is what helps you the most. That’s the reason what makes me to think I will pass CCNA this time.

Big issue

Friday, October 30th, 2009 | ip telephony | No Comments

Finally the “biggest issue” had been resolved. It was not so big as people thought at the begining. Well, anybody can say, that after all any problem seems easy, but when is unsolved it is horrible nightmare.

Asuming, month of exchanging logs, informations etc. and final result was that the cluster must be established by reseting.

Unified Communications Manager biggest issue

Tuesday, September 29th, 2009 | ip telephony | No Comments

After disk failure I faced the biggest issue in my job. Recovery of publisher forced recovery of subscriber. That was information from Cisco. For now it looks like it didn’t helped at all. Cluster still not working properly, especially with extention mobility. Data exchange with CRS is also not perfect.

I hope Cisco will show something after digging logs.

It is a nightmare til now. How long will it continue?

HP accelarates with development networking segment, so it is time to look closer for “their” solutions. After Colubris aquisition it looks like HP has got the best solution for wifi. Colubris had got the most secure wifi solutions.

OK we will see ;)

GWGK

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 | ip telephony | No Comments

After long preparation I passed Gateways and Gatekeepers exam. Iwas more difficult I thought. Learning all necessary subject it was almost the same as CVoice plus some experience I’ve been learning during support. Pure GK knowledge is not huge. However exam suprised me and the effect was I passed below 900 points.

Asuming it is nothing strange for me that GWGK disappeared and new CVoice was rebulit with IP-IP gateways. It is exactly the same.

I hope I will get next for CCVP soon. Some hard learning time and I will be ready. The good thing is that at work I will be ready to built some lab for voice solutions. Finally. It is obvoius that not everything should be tested on production enviroments.
